Madura Strait, East Java, ruangenergi.com – Good news has arrived from offshore! Indonesia’s upstream oil and gas sector is beating strongly again after Petronas Indonesia achieved major success from an offshore development well at the Bukit Tua Field, Madura Strait.
In an announcement delivered directly by the head of SKK Migas, Djoko Siswanto, the development well BTJTB-T8 (NZ2) is now producing a stable flow of 1,050 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) — and that number is projected to continue rising!
Djoko reported that drilling, which utilized the Naga 8 jack-up rig, was completed on 3 October 2025. Without delay, the Petronas team immediately performed well stimulation.
The result? A production test conducted on 22 October 2025 showed excellent performance right away.
“Alhamdulillah, it has now reached a stable flow of 1,050 BOPD,” said Djoko Siswanto in his report.
This 1,050 BOPD is only the beginning! SKK Migas and Petronas are optimistic that after the pipeline connection to the production facilities is completed within the next 2–3 days, daily production from well BTJTB-T8 could rise to 1,200 BOPD.
Once the pipeline connection is complete, the well will undergo Multi-Rate Testing (MRT) to maximize production potential and ensure the well operates at its highest capacity.
Naga 8 Rig Moves On: Targeting 10 MMSCFD of Gas!
Success at BTJTB-T8 means the Naga 8 rig won’t stay long on location. It is now moving to continue its next mission: drilling well BTJTB-T6 (NZ-1).
The BTJTB-T6 well is expected to be completed within a month and is projected to deliver a significant additional production of 10 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD). After finishing its work in Madura, the Naga 8 rig will continue to the Barokah exploration well.
This report reinforces the commitment of Indonesia’s Production Sharing Contractors (KKKS) — in this case Petronas Indonesia — in developing Indonesia’s offshore potential. The success of BTJTB-T8 represents a real step in maintaining national energy security and increasing crude oil supply amid global market fluctuations.
“This is the result of full attention and support from the Minister. We extend our highest respect and thanks for the support,” Djoko Siswanto concluded, welcoming the optimism for additional production from the Bukit Tua Field. Excellent! 💪
