Yogyakarta, Central Java, ruangenergi.com – Good news comes from Indonesia’s upstream oil and gas activities. The Head of SKK Migas, Djoko Siswanto, reported the successful development drilling conducted by PT Petronas Carigali Indonesia in well BTJTB-NZ1, Bukit Tua Field, Madura Strait. Early results indicate a significant gas potential, signaling a positive step toward strengthening national energy security.
Drilling of well BTJTB-NZ1 was carried out using the batch drilling method, starting on 25 July 2025 with the Naga 8 jack-up rig. The operation lasted 42 days, or two weeks faster than the initial plan.
“Alhamdulillah, the development drilling results of well BTJTB-NZ1, from KKKS Petronas, show quite good gas,” wrote Djoko in his report to the Minister and Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.
The production flow test (well testing) conducted on 18 November 2025 recorded gas results between 11–13 MMSCFD with a wellhead pressure (WHP) of 800–600 psi. This horizontal well targeted the Kujung-1 formation with a single-string completion concept.
The drilling location is on the BTJT-B platform, located in the offshore Bukit Tua Field area, which has long been a significant contributor to Petronas’ oil and gas production in Indonesia.
After completing operations at BTJT-B, Rig Naga-8 will move to Petronas’ North Ketapang area to drill the Barokah-1 exploration well. This exploration well aims to find hydrocarbon accumulation in a four-way dip closure within the Ngimbang Carbonate.
“Please keep us in your prayers; God willing, we can discover gas there as well,” Djoko added in his report.
SKK Migas emphasized that the success of drilling wells BTJTB-NZ1 and BTJTB-NZ2 demonstrates the commitment of the Production Sharing Contractors (KKKS), particularly Petronas, in optimizing Indonesia’s offshore oil and gas potential. These discoveries also represent a concrete step toward maintaining national energy stability amid rising demand.
“We appreciate the enthusiasm and support given by the Minister. These results motivate us to continue working even better,” concluded the SKK Migas and Petronas Carigali team in the report.
