An Introduction to Popular Machine Learning Tools for Seismic Interpreters
Carrie Laudon, Senior Geophysical Consultant
Geophysical Insights
In most industries, machine learning and artificial intelligence are trending themes. The subsurface is no exception. For many years, seismic interpreters and 3D seismic data have worked with “Big Data.” However, the algorithms and computer power have now caught up, allowing machine learning methods to be applied to seismic data. Businesses that use ML have automated seismic processing, identifying formation tops, and log estimation. This talk will concentrate on two commercial systems, one supervised and one unsupervised, that help with multi-attribute analysis using self-organizing maps, automatic fault prediction, and post-stack seismic data.
