Integrated Machine Learning For Better Seismic Interpretation Predictions
Dr. Tom Smith will be presenting at the EAGE Conference on Seismic Interpretation Using AI Methods. Dr. Smith will be presenting a paper co-authored by himself, Dr. Jie Qi, Dr. Carolan Laudon, Ms. Hana Kabazi, and Mr. Hal Green from Geophysical Insights.
In recent years, the industry has seen rapid adoption of various machine learning (ML) algorithms. A common practice, especially among budding users, is applying specific ML algorithms to solve targeted seismic interpretation problems. First-time ML users often expect a one-and-done process, which may produce disappointing or puzzling results. The authors contend that real breakthroughs occur when ML techniques are applied in concert, often in a probing fashion of seismic interpretation discovery. In the same way, seismic data processing discovers the clearest image of the subsurface.
