Title: SOM Resolution Below Tuning Thickness – Is it true?

When: 12 December 2017 at 11:30AM

Where: Royal Sonesta, 2222 West Loop S, Houston, TX 77027

Room: Champions Ballroom

Summary: Is it really true that SOM offers seismic resolution below conventional limits of a quarter wavelength?  Is it a lot of hokum?  A number of examples have been discussed at talks and articles have been published to advance this claim. This talk addresses the evidence of the underpinnings of the technique, first with model studies and then with those factors thought to affect the success of the process, factors recently presented in a mathematical model.  Finally, we will discuss issues often cited as resistance: not tied to wells, not tied to seismic around wells, not probabilistic so no risk assessment, and lastly, attribute selection anxiety.
