AI Research Geophysicist
Location: Houston, TX
 
Job Description –  AI Research Geophysicist
 
The AI Research Geophysicist will work on challenging seismic interpretation problems and must be capable of both independent research and working with other professionals to identify and develop new applications requiring machine learning and deep learning technology.  The individual selected for the role will work at the forefront of seismic interpretation in a dynamic, multi-disciplined team of geoscientists, software developers, product managers, and marketers.
 
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Geophysics
  • Demonstrable knowledge on the applications of machine learning and deep learning technologies
  • Capable of fundamental research and developing algorithms in Python or Tensorflow
  • Solid skills in writing well-documented code that can be implemented by software development
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Able to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Experience in the E&P industry is considered a strong plus
  • Skill in writing Fortran will also be considered beneficial to the role
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. at this time

Petrophysicist (Intern)
Job Title – Petrophysicist (Intern)
Location: Houston, TX
Reports To: Designated R&D Team Lead
Position Status: Exempt

 

Responsibilities:
  • Explore machine learning tools to aid in petrophysical-geophysical integration.
  • Test and suggest enhancements to internally developed algorithms for ongoing research.
  • Enhance, recreate, and develop internally developed workflows that integrate well log properties and seismic interpretation with statistical analysis.
  • Enhance and test seismic attribute and machine learning algorithms as compared to petrophysical properties.
  • Document actions, observations, and conclusions throughout the internship.

The most important duties of this job are:

  • Work with data scientists to identify inefficiencies and optimize machine learning algorithms.
  • Work with Product Management to integrate learnings that enhance the user experience of commercial software.
  • Assist the development team with integrating and testing new algorithms that integrate well log information with seismic data.
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts (SME) to develop new approaches and workflows to identify petrophysical features from well logs.
  • Professionally communicate methods, observations, and conclusions using written documents, presentations, and oral conversations with Subject Matter Experts (SME).

Required Skills

Must-have:

  • Current (full-time) MS or PhD student in petrophysics within one year of graduation
  • 1–2 years of experience with Python, C++, Fortran, or C# programming
  • Working knowledge of classical or Bayesian statistics
  • Knowledge and experience of commercial petrophysical software (e.g., PowerLog, IG, Techlog, etc.)
  • 5–2 years of experience creating common petrophysical products in support of hydrocarbon extraction

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of signal theory and the processing of signals using various filters
  • Basic knowledge of supervised machine learning methods
  • 0–2 years of experience with post-migration processing and inversion packages (e.g., RokDoc, Petrel, Kingdom, Hampson-Russell, etc.

Geoscience Interpreter (Intern)
Job Description – Geoscience Interpreter (Intern)
Location:

Reports To:
Designated Geoscience Team Lead
Position Status:
Exempt

 

Responsibilities:
  • Develop geologic interpretation products using 2D and 3D seismic data.
  • Create & assess seismic attribute products using geoscience software.
  • Produce multi-attribute interpretation products using supervised and unsupervised classification methods, under the guidance of senior geoscience personnel.
  • Document actions, observations, and conclusions throughout the internship.

The most important duties of this job are:

  • Creating geoscience interpretation products (fault and horizon mapping) that meet or exceed Geophysical Insights’ quality standards.
  • Determine seismic attributes for use in single or multi-attribute interpretation products to enhance geologic features in 2D and 3D seismic data.
  • Methodically testing algorithm parameters to optimize geologic features in seismic data.
  • Professionally communicate methods, observations, and conclusions using written documents, presentations, and oral conversations with Subject Matter Experts (SME).

Required Skills

Must-have:

  • Current (full-time) MS or PhD student in geoscience (geology or geophysics) within one year of graduation
  • General knowledge of the components of a petroleum system
  • 5–2 years of experience in seismic interpretation methods

Preferred:

    • Knowledge of seismic interpretation packages (preferred Kingdom or Petrel)
    • Interest in seismic stratigraphy, seismic geomorphology, or structural geology
    • Experience well-log analysis
